About Me

Kamal Rahyab was born and raised in Queens, New York. At an early age, Kamal garnered a passion for acting while cultivating laughter from family and friends with amateur home videos and performances. Growing up, he jumped at any opportunity to put on a show, be it school drama clubs, town hall musicals, or community theater at Queens College.

Over the years, Kamal began to venture into self-producing, directing low budget short films starring himself, a path that earned his entrance into the School of Visual Arts. While pursuing a bachelor’s of fine arts degree at the School of Visual Arts, Kamal entertains audiences with improvisational performances, script readings, and student films. Kamal has utilized his time on campus to collaborate with a multitude of artists, emphasising collaborations with minority creatives, who like Kamal possess stories that are yet to be told; in particular, Kamal wishes to portray more nuanced depictions of Middle Eastern culture. With over two years of experience acting and directing, Kamal can be found in Seventeen Magazine’s ‘Bestie Picks Bae’ webseries, as well as several student films such as ‘Gone’ by Sean Brown, and ‘Lonely’ by Jinqi Zhang.

Furthermore Kamal has lent his talents behind the camera alongside Rob Aviles on the music video ‘Revelation’; additionally he has teamed up with Afghan freelancer Zara Films for wedding videos, and the School of Visual Arts for a series of promotional videos. With each project, he elevates his technique with intensive focus and infectious enthusiasm.

Kamal harbors an unquenchable desire to explore, whether it’s strolling around the city or conquering a mountain in upstate New York. In any encounter, he hopes for a meeting with new animals (or people) to share his day with, except of course snakes. While he adores reading and writing and ping pong, Kamal prefers to spend his down time with close family and friends, once again cultivating their company and joy.

“Kamal is always daring, always shining; his is an exciting new voice as both an actor and filmmaker.”
